Welcome to the Taunton Public Library’s new Podcasting Blog!
What is a blog? A blog, a combination of the words web and log, is a website where commentary can be posted on just about anything. There are personal blogs (think online diary), news blogs (both straight forward news reporting and personal views on current events), particular subject blogs which is what this one will be, and many more. This blog will discuss and feature podcasts that the library and its patrons will be creating.
What is a Podcast? A podcast is an audio, or video, that can be found on, and downloaded from, the Internet. The name podcast evolved from combining iPod with broadcast. The word podcast often confuses people because they think they must have an iPod to listen to podcasts. Nothing could be future from the truth, podcasts can be played on any portable media player as well as on any computer. If you’re confused don’t worry, as we progress in this adventure we will give directions on how to do this.
What do we hope to accomplish? Last year our Children’s Room dabbled with its first podcasts. The Library offered a series of writing workshops for children, recorded the children reading their original stories, then made these available on the Internet. You can go to our old podcasting page here to read and hear about that adventure.
Starting this summer we hope to embark on creating more podcasts and this Blog will be the place where you will find information about what we have going on and where to go to listen, and hopefully even view, our podcasts. Though staff will be doing some podcasts our true goal is to get our patrons, both young and old, to create content to podcast.
